The San Francisco Zoo provides our nearly 700 animals with superior care designed to advance their physical and psychological wellness. We believe that people have the intelligence and compassion to turn the current extinction and environmental crisis around; that’s why we have made it our goal to inspire our nearly one million annual visitors to take some form of conservation action. From providing visitors with an up close opportunity to observe critically endangered species, to operating our facility in a green manner, to working to preserve the habitat in our own backyard, the San Francisco Zoo practices what it preaches.
The San Francisco Zoo is a multi-faceted place. We are a 100-acre center for wildlife that provides exemplary care for rare and endangered species, including a botanical garden showcasing native plants and gardens, an interactive Children’s Zoo, informative special exhibitions and much more. We are an educational center providing learning programs and volunteer opportunities for children and adults. And most importantly, we are a recreation area where people can have fun and learn about animals.
Our mission is to connect people with wildlife, inspire caring for nature and advance conservation action.
